ShanghaiMart is pleased to present an exciting, informational Forum on Tuesday, March 22 to address the dramatic changes and challenges confronting international women¡¯s apparel trading partners:"Trade and Buying in the New World of Women's Apparel."


Tom Burns, Senior Vice President of The Doneger Group, the largest apparel buying office in the U.S., will open the session with an overview of the issues and opportunities that confront the world of sourcing without quotas. Following the introduction, Mr. Burns will moderate the Forum of international experts who will share their views on this fascinating topic. Participants include James Fallon, Editor-in-Chief of Women's Wear Daily; Roy Delbyck, American trade attorney; Larry King of Li and Fung; and Dr. Wei, director of the China Textile Industry Council Media Center and publisher of China Textile.


This promises to be a timely and educational Forum considering the key issues in women's apparel trading. ShanghaiMart has assembled an exciting line-up of experienced global trade experts who will share their knowledge and answer questions regarding the post-quota world of apparel sourcing.

¡¡Trade and Buying in the New World of Women's Apparel

Thomas Burns

Thomas (Tom) Burns is senior vice president with The Donegar Group, the largest apparel buying and consulting office in the U.S. He is responsible for maintaining and building client relationships and the development of the company's strategic and new business initiatives. In addition, Mr. Burns oversees the Doneger Creative Services and HDA International divisions of the company. He has over 25 years of industry experience and originally joined The Doneger Group in 1990. Mr. Burns was formerly President of Ballinger Gold, a better knitwear manufacturer and Vice President of Kirk Palmer & Associates, an industry-focused executive search firm.

James Fallon

James (Jim) Fallon is editor-in-chief of Women 's Wear Daily (WWD), the leading U.S. daily newspaper for the fashion and retail industries. He has held that position since October 2001, prior to which he was the London Bureau Chief for WWD¡¯s parent company Fairchild Publications. In that role, one he held for 20 years, he wrote for all of Fairchild's newspapers and magazines, including WWD, W, DNR, Jane, Supermarket News, Footwear News, Home Furnishings News, and Executive Technology, covering designers, retailers, major manufacturers, trade, sourcing, textiles, real estate, and more.
 
¡¡Shifts in Sourcing in China

Larry King

Larry King joined Li & Fung, one of the leading global consumer products export trading companies, in 1970 as a clerk. His rise through the ranks of the organization has involved hands-on positions including inspector, sourcing agent, and merchandising agent. More recently, Mr. King established and managed the operations of Li & Fung offices in Korea and Thailand, and he managed offices in Taiwan and Singapore. Currently, he manages the Shanghai office. Li & Fung is headquartered in Hong Kong from where it co-ordinates the manufacture of goods through a network of offices in close to 40 countries.

 
¡¡What the Demise of Quota Means for Chinese Manufacturers and Exporters: Opportunities and Threats

Roy Delbyck

Trade attorney Roy Delbyck represents U.S. and Asian firms involved in the importation of merchandise into the United States and other export markets. He advises on a wide range of customs and trade and commercial matters. Mr. Delbyck established his own law firm, Delbyck and Associates, on June 1, 1993 after some 10 years of practicing law. Mr. Delbyck has written on legal matters for a wide range of apparel and legal publications including the Hong Kong-based publication Inside Fashion (previously known as Women's Wear Daily Asia), ATTN, and Hong Kong Lawyer. Mr. Delbyck frequently lectures on legal issues related to the import and export of merchandise to groups throughout Asia and the United States.

 
¡¡China's Garment Manufacturing Industry and the New Structure in International Trade

Dr.Wei Lin

Dr. Wei Lin, Deputy Director-General of China National Garment Association, is a former editor-in-chief of China Textile, China Fashion Weekly and a witness to the growth of Chinese garment enterprises for more than a decade. As the Director of Media Center of China National Textile Association and Executive Director-General of the journal China Textile, Dr. Wei has conducted in-depth research into how China¡¯s garment manufacturing industry is to cope with the new international trade structure in the post-quota era. His foresighted and practical studies are highly acclaimed by the garment and textile industries.
